SE PA and DC Day 13: Epilogue

Like other bike trips I’ve taken, this trip gave me an opportunity visit areas of America where I previously had not been, to meet and interact with a few people who live there, and to consider the larger backstory and history of those areas. However, it was an unexpected call from my birth-twin John in January, 2024 that set the highpoints for this trip: reconnecting with John and Joe whom I had met as a volunteer at Holy Redeemer Church in Vanceburg, KY in 1977, and hadn’t seen since.

While planning the trip, I was concerned about how does one reconnect with guys I haven’t been in contact with for 47 years? What if we don’t even recognize each other?

Well, it turns out that this was a complete non-issue. It took just a second or two for me to connect my memories with the person standing in front of me, but after that the conversations just flowed. (Although, if the way I met them was to pick each out of police line-up of 20 or so, it would taken me a longer to pick them out.) However, I plan on seeing these old geezers again, and I won’t wait another 47 years to do so.
